One brand, many markets, different rules. From restaurants to retail chains, from Italy to export markets.

Every step changes how people encounter and choose the brand.

The shift

The same brand can live in very different worlds.
A product developed for foodservice channel can reach supermarket shelves with an identity built for an entirely different context.

San Salvatore, apricot yogurt

On the shelf, viewing distances, decision times and even competitors change. A product that used to be presented and explained suddenly has to speak for itself.
The same solution replicated everywhere can be consistent on paper and ineffective in practice.

In supermarkets, a brand may need a stronger shelf presence. In Ho.Re.Ca., the same brand can afford different codes and a different pace.
The brand stays the same. It does not necessarily have to behave the same way.

People

Recognising a brand even when it changes shape.

Packaging can change format, material or composition and still clearly belong to the same world.

Armatore, bluefin tuna

When identity lives beyond a single layout, colours, imagery, language and attitude can show up in different ways without repeating the same formula every time.

Packaging becomes part of a wider brand world. An object that carries something we have already seen, felt or recognised elsewhere.
Changing shape without starting from scratch every time.

03/06

The competitive context

Of all the things we could say, some matter more than others.
A product carries a great deal of information.

Molini Pizzuti, flours

Origin, process, ingredients, certifications, technical features. All of it may matter, but not all of it matters equally.

When every selling point competes for attention, packaging becomes the sum of what the company wants to prove. And each SKU ends up making its own case.
Competition forces choices. Some features set a brand apart. Others are simply what people expect from the category.
Between the two lies the space a brand can try to make its own.

04/06

Complexity

Every new SKU solves a problem, until it becomes the problem.
It happens often.

Zig, Fruits & Nuts

A customer asks for a new format. A distributor spots an opportunity in its market. A new channel calls for a variant. The company responds and the range grows.
Taken one by one, these are understandable decisions, often commercially sound.

Then another question arises:
what does the sum of all these exceptions cost the brand?
Over time a range can become a snapshot of the requests received. Hierarchies weaken and every new need adds another layer of complexity.
Commercial growth continues. The risk is that the brand struggles more and more to hold everything together.

05/06

The role of the brand

The company organises products.
Outside the company, the logic can be different.
For producers, it is natural to think in terms of type, flavour, format or weight.

Uppa, avocado oil

That is how a range is developed, managed and distributed. But that structure is born inside the company.
Outside, very similar products can take on different roles depending on the moment, the need or the occasion they are chosen for. The raw material may be the same. The reason to buy it changes.

Sometimes it is enough to shift the point of view: from how a product is classified to the role it can play.
A range tells us what a company makes. A brand can show us what we can do with those products.

06/06

Our point of view

We design for decisions we cannot yet anticipate. A brand keeps changing after a project ends.

Serrocroce, mountain farm beer

New SKUs, commercial requests, markets and channels that may not even be on the horizon today.
We can design for what we know today. We can also set principles clear enough to guide what comes next.

What can change. What must stay recognisable. How far a range can stretch. How a new SKU can fit into the range without becoming an exception.
Packaging is one of the visible consequences of these decisions. The brand system tries to hold them together over time.
A strong brand does not have all the answers. It has enough structure to face new questions.
